The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Office of Partnerships and Public Engagement, Hispanic-Serving Institutions National Program will host an information webinar to discuss the 2025 E. Kika De La Garza Fellowship Program application process.

The webinar is for interested applicants from Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and or Hispanic-Serving School Districts.

The purpose of the E. Kika De La Garza Fellowship is to introduce faculty and staff from Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) or Hispanic-Serving School Districts (HSSD) to the vast array of USDA resources available to them. Fellows will receive access to long-term collaboration opportunities and then share what they learned with students and colleagues at their home institutions.

Available Fellowships:

Note: All applicants must fully commit to the defined fellowship dates. 

Education Fellowships are for faculty, staff and administrators employed by Hispanic-Serving Institutions. Education Fellows participate in a Washington, D.C.-based program.

High School Education Fellowships are for secondary education superintendents, principals, agricultural and/or district level teachers working for a Hispanic-Serving school district. Fellows participate in a Washington, D.C.-based program.

Science Fellowships are for science faculty employed by Hispanic-Serving Institutions. Science fellows collaborate with leading scientists from USDA. Participants attend the Washington, D.C.-based program as well as a USDA Research Center within the country for an additional week.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed Application Form: Web-based application form submission.
  • Essay: A statement describing your interest in USDA programs and how you envision the fellowship will impact you, your institution, and your community.
  • Also, describe how you plan to share information acquired during your fellowship with colleagues, students, and other interested individuals.
  • Resume: Submit a maximum four-page resume, including both educational and professional accomplishments.

Important Dates:

  • Application Cycle: December 10, 2024 – March 6, 2025
    (all materials must be received by 11:59 p.m. PST on March 6).
  • Fellowships are awarded: May 2025
  • Travel to Washington, D.C.: July 6, 2025
  • Education and High School Fellowships: July 7 – July 11, 2025
  • Science Fellowship: July 7 – July 18, 2025
